Medical Camp

The Medical Programme is one of the most popular activities in Kimlea. Started in 2000, the Clinic is held on the  first Saturday of every month, catering for families in the villages around Kimlea and beyond. Most villagers in this area are not able to get the much-needed medical attention due to lack of funds. This Programme is run in conjunction with Fanusi Study Centre.

A group of volunteer doctors and other senior medical students, working on a Rota basis, attend to the patients by carrying out checks-ups, giving first aid and counseling on hygiene and nutrition. They also help to secure the rights of ailing employees by giving them letters advising the employers to give them leave. If patients need specialized treatment, they are referred to Kenyatta National Hospital.

The Programme is supported by several pharmaceutical companies that supply medicines, etc. A small fee of KShs. 5 is charged for consultation and treatment. This is important as it places value on these services, which might otherwise be abused. The fee also discourages patients from depending on handouts, making them responsible for the care of the facilities.

At present some classrooms are turned into "Observation Rooms" while the reception area becomes the "Pharmacy". However, a building has just been put up at Kimlea to provide proper accommodation facilities on the compound so that the monthly volunteer Programme can be turned into a Dispensary.

The Programme fosters the development of socially responsible medical professionals, committed to the protection and care of human life in all its stages.
